Montreal Little Italy

The Montreal Little Italy is a nice place for strolling and shopping.

The Little Italy is a very pleasant neighborhood roughly surrounded by the Saint-Laurent, Saint-Denis, Saint-Zotique and Jean-Talon Streets.

The Little Italy - La Petite Italie - is easily recognizable with its churches, its Jean-Talon market, its distinctive shops and its friendly bistros and restaurants "à saveur italienne".

Many of the Italians that now live in Montreal are from the South of Italy and from regions such as Calabria  Abruzzi, Molise and Sicily. Italians who introduced us to a new language and a number of dialects and to an Italian culture focused on arts, architecture music and food.

An Italian culture where family ties are extremely important and where family solidarity is focused on the extended family rather than on the "nuclear family" of just parents and kids.

According to Talia Wagner, "Italians have frequent family gatherings and enjoy spending time with those in their family. Children are reared to remain close to the family upon adulthood and incorporate their future family into the larger network.
